Apple will temporarily increase the storage space on iCloud for all users. The reason is that anyone who wants to transfer data to a new device should be able to make it easier when iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 are released later in the fall.

  • Easier to transfer your apps and files with the new solution
  • Paying subscribers on iCloud get new features
  • iCloud + was introduced during WWDC 2021

The extended storage space is created automatically when you set up your new iPhone or iPad. When the process begins, the space is expanded by the amount you need, and when everything is ready, the space is removed again.

So you can not use the extra space for anything other than iCloud Backup that runs when you transfer your apps and other files to a new gadget.

Now when you buy a new device you can use ‌iCloud‌ Backup to move your data to your new device, even if you’re low on storage. ‌ICloud‌ will grant you as much storage as you need to complete a temporary backup, free of charge, for up to three weeks. This allows you to get all your apps, data, and settings onto your device automatically. ”

The big advantage here is that users who do not pay for extended storage space (and only have 5GB of free space) now find it much easier to start with a new iPhone or iPad.

And if you already pay for, for example, 200GB or 1TB of space, you will notice that your subscription will soon change its name to iCloud +.

The subscription now includes several new features, such as a VPN and the ability to hide your email address from others. You can also add a domain name to your email if you want.
