Apple really wants their phones to be more durable and this thanks to Corning Gorilla glass in which they now invest big money.
Apple now announces that they are investing 45 million dollars in Corning and this so that they will continue to produce durable glass and protect phones, mainly the iPhone then probably.
For a few years now, Corning has had a good collaboration with Apple when it comes to producing glass for the iPhone, and when the iPhone 12 came, Ceramic Shield was introduced, which was the next generation of protection for iPhone screens.
We do not know how this money will be used by Corning and what requirements Apple has, but it is already speculated that Corning will work to produce a glass that works on foldable phones in the future, although Apple may be a few years away, it is important to start developing in good time.
Apple’s chief operating officer, Jeff Williams, said in a press release regarding the investment:
“Apple and Corning have a long history of working together to accomplish the impossible. From the very first iPhone glass, to the revolutionary Ceramic Shield on the iPhone 12 lineup, our collaboration has changed the landscape of smartphone cover design and durability.
Ceramic Shield is a prime example of the technologies that are possible when deep innovation meets the power of American manufacturing.
