CD Projekt Red hacked – source code for Cyberpunk 2077 & Witcher 3 stolen

Cybercriminals claim to have access to source code for both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3. This after a ransomware attack on Polish game developer CD Projekt Red.

The game developer has confirmed that they have been subjected to an attack and that outsiders have managed to access “certain data”. Exactly what data has not been officially announced, at least not yet.

According to CD Projekt Red, however, no privacy-sensitive data has been stolen. It is said that despite the hackers claiming to have documents from company lawyers, the HR department and financial documents.

CD Projekt Red also says that they will not negotiate with the cybercriminals who attacked the game studio. Nor will any money be paid for any reason.

If the game developer does not pay the ransom demanded by the hackers, they threaten to release all documents and the source code for Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3 (including a previously unknown version) and the card game Gwent.

The Witcher 3
The source code for The Witcher 3 is alleged to have been stolen by cybercriminals.

In a statement, CD Projekt Red says that they have secured their IT infrastructure so that similar attacks will not happen in the future. At the same time, code restoration has been done from secure backups that the hackers have not been able to access.

CD Projekt Red has been heavily criticized since the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 and this development is really not something the game developer needs right now.

The question now is whether the hackers are delaying work on Cyberpunk 2077 and the bug fixes promised in the future. We also know that there will be an expansion in the future, and even here we are questioning whether it will be delayed.
