Do you think the angle of view in Mass Effect Legendary Edition is too narrow? No danger, there is a simple trick to change the game’s FOV – even if it is not in the settings.
What you need to do is replace the Coalesced.bin file used by Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3. Note that the file may have the extension “_INT” or something else depending on the language you are using.
With a modified variant of Coalesced.bin, you can change the FOV between 80, 90, and 100. Each new FOV requires that you use the correct version of the file, so it is not possible to change easily in the settings.
Activate the FOV setting with F10
However, to activate or deactivate the FOV setting, you can press F10 while in the game. So at least that bit is not particularly tricky.
The file you want to replace can be found in the BioGame Cooked PC Console folder.
Do not forget to always back up files that are modified or replaced. Then you can always restore the functionality if something should go wrong. You can also verify the integrity of your files via Steam or Origin.
To change the FOV, download a modified setting via Nexus Mods. Select the correct FOV for Mass Effect 1, 2, or 3 – extract the file and copy the bin file to the correct folder. Remember to back up files BEFORE you overwrite them!
Problems with the zoom when driving Makon
One thing you need to know before replacing Coalesced.bin with the modified version is that the second zoom step to the cannon on your Mako does NOT work when the mod is active.
This is not a major problem, at least at the usual levels of difficulty. If you drive on the harder ones that require a little more finesse and distance calculation, then the FOV mode may not be desirable.
