Different Between Laser Marking and Engraving Machines

laser marking

A laser marking machine uses a laser beam to create a permanent mark on the surface of various objects. A laser engraving machine uses a laser to engrave objects that need recording. The most common features are all laser-made.
And they are all about marketing tools. So today, we will talk about the difference between laser marking and engraving features.

The difference between a laser marking machine and an engraving machine

1. Operating format

The working area of the laser marking machine is not very large. Usually the marking area is 100*100mm, 200*200mm, 300*300mm. Low-power laser engraving machines have a small processing area, but some very powerful laser cutting machines are used to cut metal. The processing area is too large. For example, 900*600mm and 1300*900mm.

2. Differences in speed.

The speed of a laser marker is much faster than that of a laser engraving machine.

3. Depth

The depth of the laser engraving machine is much greater than that of a laser marking machine.

4. Laser

A laser engraving machine is usually a carbon dioxide glass tube. The life span of a laser tube laser is usually 2000-10000 hours. Carbon dioxide glass tube lasers are discarded. Laser markers are usually metal tubes (non-metallic markers) and pulsed fiber (metal markers), and their service life is usually more than five years.

5. Price.

The price of a laser marking machine varies from one thing to another, and it ranges from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands. Low power prices are cheaper with a non-metallic laser cutting and engraving machine. But laser engraving machines are also very expensive.

Types of marking and laser engraving equipment

There are four types of laser marking and metal engraving equipment. Some of them apply to both tagging and recording, while others work specifically to both:

UV lasers

It is designed as an effective solution for marking plastics and glass, UV rays can engrave various materials, from metal to paper. These lasers are designed for HDPE, LDPE, and synthetic fibers, making them ideal for laser engraving applications where the product area needs protection.

Fiber lasers

It is the most popular type of laser marking and engraving. Fiber lasers are a type of solid-state laser and have a much smaller focus range that leads to greater durability than the CO2 system.
They are ready to be permanently tag, including serial numbers and barcodes. In addition, because they can produce strong laser markings with a small diameter of focus, they are well suited for metal engraving (including coated metal) as well as distinct plastic markings.

CO2 lasers

Although CO2 lasers are among the first advanced gas laser, they are still one of the most useful and canal laser waves currently available. Modern CO2 lasers form a laser beam in a closed glass tube filled with gas (usually carbon dioxide). The high voltage is transmit through a tube, which reacts with gas particles, increasing their power and producing light. CO2 lasers are commonly use for cutting and welding. Low-power CO2 laser markers are best suite for non-metallic materials and plastics.

YAG lasers

Both are in a visual field that reflects light and helps create laser light. Although widely use in production, they are out data lamps have a short lifespan and need to be replace regularly.

It will be much easier for you to choose the right laser marker and engraving machine for your needs with the above information.
