Although the Nintendo Switch has a few years on the market, the game console sells like hot cakes in the sunshine.
A contributing factor to continued high sales is probably the corona pandemic, which causes many to stay at home instead of, for example, traveling.
And it makes many people look at gaming as entertainment. Something that is clearly noticeable in the number of Switch units sold last year.
According to the website Polygon sales were close to 29 million copies in 2020. An increase of 37 percent compared with the previous year.
At the same time, sales of games for the Switch console increased by almost as much. From 168.72 million to 238.88 million games.
Absolutely best-selling was – unsurprisingly – Animal Crossing: New Horizons. That game sold 20.85 million copies in 2020. And then we will take into account that the game was released in March.
However, the game has a bit left to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which leads the sales charts for Switch games overall. That game has sold a total of 32.63 million over its lifetime.
It is not surprising if Nintendo looks positively to the future. We know that there will be a new, improved variant in 2022 and already this month there will be new Switch Lite models with different color combinations.
