Apple may use larger batteries in the upcoming iPhone 13. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will release four new models in 2021 – and all will have greater battery capacity than the iPhone 12 series.
According to Kuo, the change should be possible because Apple has found ways to optimize the design in a way that gives extra space to the battery.
Among other things, the SIM card reader has been integrated on the circuit board and the thickness of other components has been reduced.
The new 2H21 iPhone models feature a larger battery capacity than the series, thanks to the space-saving design of many components. Hence, the new 2H21 iPhone models are also slightly heavier than the iPhone 12. The space-saving design includes integrating the SIM card slot with the mainboard, reducing the front optical modules’ thickness, etc.
There is also talk that Apple may use a new screen technology in its upcoming mobile phones. It will further reduce power consumption and make the entire series more energy efficient.
All changes are also expected to make the entire series slightly heavier than its predecessors.
Apple reduced the battery capacity with the iPhone 12 series
With the iPhone 12 series, Apple chose to reduce the battery capacity compared to the previous series. And a lot actually.
The capacity decreased by 295 mAh, 231 mAh and 282 mAh for iPhone 12, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max respectively. But it was not noticed in practice because Apple managed to make other optimizations that meant that the battery life was not negatively affected.
Since the iPhone 12 mini has no predecessor, we can not compare that model with any other. But as far as we know today, Apple has been criticized for losing battery time too fast compared to its larger sibling models, especially with 5G enabled.
