When Mozilla releases Firefox 90 later this year, it will have two major improvements for macOS users.
The first is that Firefox gets support for “native fullscreen”.
A feature that allows the browser to work optimally in full screen with Apple’s own APIs in macOS.
Fullscreen and Dark Mode in Firefox
To enable support, you need to make settings in Firefox. No danger, it’s rude:
- Open Firefox on your Mac
- Go to about: config
- Find full-screen-api.macos-native-full-screen
- Activate the setting
Simple, right? And you have to do the same thing to activate the second improvement. And it’s activating a new, improved Dark Mode feature, also known as Dark Mode:
- Go to about: config
- Find widget.macos.respect-system-appearance
- Activate the setting
Do not forget to restart Firefox after making the settings.
The version follows Firefox 89 which focuses more on the new, improved Proton UI interface.

You can try the Nightly version if you want, but keep in mind that it is early software and there may be bugs that cause it.
There are four versions to use – Regular (Recommended), Beta, Developer Edition and Nightly. You can install the three later test versions via this page.
