Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X / S will continue to be in short supply

If you have been looking to buy the new consoles, you know that it has been very empty on the shelves and it will be like that for a while.

AMD, which stands for both CPU and GPU on the new consoles Playstation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, now announces that there will be a continued shortage of components until the summer.

A major reason is that both consoles and new graphics cards were released during the same period and demand is significantly greater than supply. AMD says that they are working on trying to get more efficient production in order and to be able to produce more components for all needs.

Lisa Su, who is the CEO of AMD, said the following in last quarterly meeting with its investors:

“So certainly, when I look at the semiconductor environment in 2020 it was very strong. So, we saw a strong revenue ramp in our business as well as across some of our peers. It’s fair to say that the overall demand exceeded our planning and as a result, we did have some supply constraints as we ended the year. Those were primarily, I would say, in the PC market, the low end of the PC market and in the gaming markets (Playstation & Xbox). That being said, I think we’re getting great support from our manufacturing partners. The industry does need to increase the overall capacity levels and so we do see some tightness through the first half of the year, but there is added capacity in the second half. ”

So although many had hoped that the market for next-gen would calm down during the first half of 2021, we will probably have to wait until after the summer before the consoles actually start being stored at the retailers.
