Cyberpunk 2077 has been updated to version 1.12 – fixes vulnerabilities in mods

Earlier this week, CD Project Red warned players not to use Cyberpunk 2077 with mods. The reason is a serious vulnerability that puts the computer at risk.

The vulnerability was not in the game itself, but how the game handles specially created save files that use external dll files.

With the update to version 1.12, CD Projekt Red fixes the mentioned vulnerability and it is, to say the least, a small so-called hotfix. Here is the extra change log:

This update addresses the vulnerability that could be used as part of remote code execution (including save files):

Fixed a buffer overrun issue. Removed/replaced non-ASLR DLLs.

The update is only 1.5MB on PC (Steam) and is not supposed to be much bigger or smaller on other platforms. We recommend that you install it as soon as you can.

Cyberpunk 2077 was previously updated with a different hotfix, version 1.11, whose sole task was to fix a solitary problem with the Down on the Street mission.

Another fix released in 2021 solved a problem with that spare files over 8MB in size became corrupt beyond rescue. Ouch!
